Science videos

Brainiac and Mythbusters are two fun shows that deal with science. Brainiac is, shall we say, a little less rigorous and more about abusing science. One "experiment" that comes to mind is the age old question of how to free Santa if he gets stuck in the chimney - the tests ranging from simply pulling him to using high explosives to blow him out (though I think we'd probably want to steer clear of using a fictional character in a naturalistic camp!). Some of the experiments are more worthwhile than others, some are just for humour.

Mythbusters on the other hand is just as fun - they set out to see if certain urban legends and popular phrases have any truth behind them. They run everything as a proper experiment to test the hypothesis - designing the method and demonstrating the results. There are most likely videos for both on YouTube.

Anyway, a possible idea is to show some of these vids to the kids to show not only that science can be fun but to show them how experiments are designed and carried out practically. Also, I'm sure a few of the (less dangerous) experiments could be carried out by the children!

Mythbusters is certainly more rigorous than brainiac, but even they can be less than perfect with their controls! Very Happy

(I know, geek, but these things matter!)

True! But I think it's a nice fun starting point as an intro to science and testing / proving things before accepting them as true!
